Encouraging mental fitness through an app
Minderful is a mental fitness app developed by an NHS psychiatrist. It helps people build healthier habits by encouraging everyday activities that support the mind - from wild swimming to stargazing. The idea is simple: try things out, see what works, and build a routine that fits.
My role
I was brought in to audit the existing copy and improve it where needed – keeping what worked and rewriting what didn’t. That led to a series of small but meaningful changes across the app, including:
Onboarding screens – Rewriting the opening moments to clearly explain what the app does and why it matters
Tone of voice – Replacing formal or abstract language for something more grounded and human
Terminology revisions – Replacing technical labels with plain English that made the app easier to navigate
Benefit-led descriptions – Highlighting outcomes so users understood what each activity could do for their mind
Editorial consistency – Applying sentence case and tweaking the grammar where necessary
The outcome
Minderful went on to be named one of the top audio apps in the Apple App Store and now holds a five-star rating. A small job – but a rewarding one.
